A Valentine's Garden

I woke up this morning to about eight to ten inches of fresh snow in my yard.
It was breathtaking but I'm not really a cold-weather person.

As I looked out the window at the winter garden, my thoughts drifted to Valentine's Day
and how nice it would be if this romantic day fell in the summer instead of winter.

Well, since I can't make that happen,
I decided to bring back my summer garden for you to enjoy.

Yes, this is the same arch in my summer garden.
Doesn't all that green make you take a deep breath and relax?

I don't know about you but I'd rather have white flowers in my garden than white snow any day.

I suppose whoever is in charge of picking holidays,
had to scatter them around so we could celebrate something every month.
Card companies love that.

Still, maybe we could switch Valentine's Day, February 14 and Flag Day, June 14.

This private spot in my garden is perfect for a secluded summer glass of wine.
How romantic!

In the summer, the garden sings with romantic shapes and colors.

Even the leaves are heart shaped.

I'm dreaming of the day when we can have a romantic evening on the patio.

But until then,

we'll toast to warmer days and romantic nights.

What about you? Would you prefer Valentine's Day in February or June?

  2. I think the snow is beautiful. Personally , I wouldn't want to trade Feb. for June but i will enjoy looking at all that snow in your garden. The pictures of all the flowers make me long for spring and getting my hands in the dirt to start growing pretty stuff. I didn't get to do as much as I like this past summer because of the foot surgery. No more surgeries that extend into spring.

    1. Thanks Marlene! The blue ground cover plants are Turkish Veronica. The bloom only lasts a couple of weeks but is well worth it, then the greenery takes over and looks great too. Hugs, Pat

  4. A beautiful summer garden, but I do like the snow scene too. No snow here in Australia, just very, very hot and my garden looks very dry and scorched flowers. We haven't had any rain where I live for over a month now, it's not good for us or the garden. Enjoy your winter.

    1. Hi Rosie! So fun to hear from you in Australia!I forget about it being sumer there. It's been very dry here too, except in the mountains which have gotten above average amounts of snow. Hugs, Pat

  5. I like the different seasons although we don't get any snow. Valentine's day is everyday if you think about it. But you are such a romantic, what plans do you have for Valentine's day? We are going to a ballet. I bought us a box of chocolates (gone) then DH bought us a box which we are enjoying. Perfect time to plan a Spring garden. Enjoy!

    1. Thanks Ann! I forget where you are: Must be in the south if you don't get snow. Enjoy Valentine's Day at the ballet with chocolates. Sigh. Pat

  6. Here in Maine, our place is deluged with snow, too. I have a touch of seasonal affective disorder so I need all the uppers I can get in Feb.; chocolate and flowers don't hurt one bit! Your yard is gorgeous; I call my yard a "house lot" after 30 years!

  8. We live in the White Mountains of NH, so we are snowed in. Our water has been frozen for over a week now. I love your garden. We have some wild violets a purple and a white that bloom in early spring as well. We try to wait until after they bloom to do the first mowing. I also suffer from SAD. I am holding on to hope that we will have a nice spring (our last frost date is Memorial day) and my flowers will bloom.

  9. Oh I just love your garden and patio area! It does look a bit secluded -- which is nice. Our patio is pretty out in the open, however it's on an acre, so neighbors aren't t-o-o close Would love to drop by for a glass of wine! Thanks for sharing at Vintage Charm. xo Kathleen

  10. Hello Pat! LOVE your garden and yes, it is sad when our gardens go to bed for the winter. :( I get SAD, too, so it's a good thing we live where even if it is freezing outside, I can get out and walk for at least 20 minutes each day to help get rid of it. Hope your early spring flowers are beginning to pop through the snow for you! Pinned a bunch of photos. <3

    Happy Valentine's Day to you,
    Hugs,
    Barb :)
